Home Gardening tips and tricks

Updated: Dec 9, 2020

Do you enjoy growing your own food? Or maybe you want a better, cheaper access to organic vegetables. Whatever your reasons, here are some tips and tricks to help you grow healthy, nutritious food.

I always considered myself a city girl, having lived in downtown Ottawa most of my life but it turns out that I really enjoy growing food. My maternal grandfather was a farmer so maybe I inherited that gene!

I tried gardening several years ago but my results were inconsistent, probably because I had less time to devote to it. In the last 2 years, I've gradually increased the size of my garden and even added a dome over it this year to extend my growing season (ok, maybe it wasn't so gradual).

You may think it's a bit early to be thinking of gardens, given that winter is just starting, but then again it's a good time to start planning for next spring. How much space do you have for a garden? Does it have enough sun (6-8 hrs per day is better )? Which vegetables do you enjoy the most? How much time to you have to devote to your garden (some vegetables need more care than others)? Think about these questions and come back to hear my suggestions on how to start.
